What else is going on?

Right to Refuge is helping Woodcraft groups bring young refugees and asylum seekers to CoCamp, offering a contribution to camp costs and advice from districts who have experience of hosting delegations.

Venturers from Glasgow's Scotstoun District got £250 to help them put on a fundraising ceilidh. They've got lots of other fundraising initiatives under way, including a bake sale and busking - really impressive.

If you're bringing a group of young refugees or asylum seekers - or thinking about it - let us know! Right to Refuge can help. Call Folk Office on 020 7703 4173 or email campaign@woodcraft.org.uk. The deadline for requesting funds has now passed but we can still offer you support in hosting your delegation. Background to the campaign

Young people in Woodcraft Folk campaigned to raise awareness of the many issues faced by refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. We have been educating each other and our communities about the asylum system, people’s reasons for seeking sanctuary in the UK and the challenges of starting a new life here. Young people started this campaign in the hope to combat the prejudice and misconceptions amongst the public that make many refugees’ and asylum seekers’ lives even more difficult.

Right to Refuge has three aims:

  • To educate and inform the public about refugees and asylum seekers
  • To encourage communities to treat refugees and asylum seekers fairly and empathise with them
  • To practise what we preach

Woodcraft Folk groups across the UK invited young asylum seekers and refugees to join them at weekly group activities and summer camps, to learn from each other and explore ways of working together.

We have several resources to help you explore the issues of refuge, asylum, migration and taking action in support of refugees and asylum seekers. Visit the resource section for resources tagged 'Right to Refuge.'

Young Woodcraft Folk in the TREE Communications Group have produced a great leaflet for introducing refugee issues, which you can download below. If you'd like a batch of leaflets or postcards sent to you so you can use them to promote the messages of the Right to Refuge campaign, contact campaign@woodcraft.org.uk
