Aim: To think about debt at different levels.
You will need: Props (optional), a group of people.
Duration: 30 minutes

Divide into groups, and each choose a different sketch to act out. In each situation there is someone owing money, and someone who wants to collect the money. The borrowers are all having difficulties in repaying the money. You can add in other characters to the scenes.

  • A child owing money to his parents.
  • A farmer owing money to a bank lender.
  • A government owing money to the World Bank.

After you have performed your sketches, talk about the possible consequences of the borrower being unable to repay the debt in each scenario.

Who is affected? How many people are affected? What will happen if the money can not be repaid? What are the possible solutions to the problem?
