Weekend of Song, at Lockerbrook

Thursday, 16 January 2020

Early December is perhaps not the time when most of us want to be sat round a campfire for too long, but that makes the

wood burner at Lockerbook seem all the more appealing as a place to sit and sing with friends, old and new.

Songs have been a huge part of the Woodcraft programme from the very early beginnings. It was fascinating to delve into the archive of song books, to see which songs we still sing and which have been replaced over the years and to think about songs we might like to include in the future.

Learning new songs can be a challenge, so one task we set ourselves was to record some of the singing, which we hope to be able to share with groups over the next couple of months.  Gwerin y Coed, The Woodcraft Folk in Wales would love to see other groups singing Link Your Hands together in Welsh by common ground.

You can’t go somewhere like Lockerbrook and stay indoors all the time, the History walk led by Jo who shared many of the local stories was particularly popular.

The date is already in the diary for next years event 11-13 Dec 2020, let’s go singing to the fashioning of a new world.
