Lockerbrook needs help to de-carbonise!

Monday, 14 October 2019

As a Woodcraft Folk centre we are committed to do what we can to de-carbonise as rapidly as possible.  In 2016 we carried out an environmental audit which led to a whole range of energy saving measures including better insulation, LED lights and so on.  But now we want to go much further.

We have already started to look at key areas such as our energy usage - being up a hill at 1200ft in the High Peaks presents its challenges! We currently rely on oil and LPG for most of our heating and hot water but have switched to renewables for our electricity.  We are off grid for our water and have to transport all our waste one mile down our track. We compost all our green waste and as much cooked food waste as our hot composter can take!

The Lockerbrook Management Committee (LMC) has now established a De-carbonisation group and we are starting work to look at all areas of our operation to identify areas for change.   We are very keen to identify sustainable low carbon  options for our energy, procurement, catering, transport  and so on.  We are looking for people who can help us with their expertise and enthusiasm.
